Holiday weekend=WORK

My kids can tell you that every holiday weekend means WORK. Keith and I do not vacation on holiday weekends. We have 2 reasons for being so horribly mean and boring. First, people tend to vacation together... in the mountains, in large cities, at parks (etc). We prefer to visit those places without 12,000 of our closest friends so we avoid the above mentioned attractions like crazy on holiday weekends. It was actually painful for me to visit Lowes 3 times today.... I'll get to that later.  Second, we have a lot to do. We have created a lot of work for ourselves. We ask ourselves several times a day if the lifestyle we have chosen is worth it. We are coming to the conclusion that it is not.  Because we listen to the prophet, we believe in making our kids work. Everyone (except Jakob.... because he was at actual work where he gets paid) worked moving gravel to the "big shed".  Yes, I realize we have issues when we have to name one of the "out buildings" the "big shed".

This past weekend we also built 3 more garden boxes and made significant progress on the gravel paths throughout the garden area. We aren't actually very good gardeners, unless you consider growing only salsa ingredients good gardening. The black plastic is covering boxes that have some plants growing... hopefully they will be covered with pretty plants in a few months.

 Can you see the white boxes in the back ground? If you look close, you can see two more white boxes toward the top of the picture.  At the very top is the "bee" area.  I wonder if we will be able to be better gardners if the garden looks prettier?

The impending departure of Jakob means that Corrine gets to learn some new skills. Lucky girl, right? She is getting some tractor drivers ed.

Before you think we are horribly mean parents, I did spring for dinner, renting a movie, AND buying shakes after the day was finished.  We are all very tired but Im pleased with the progress that was made today.
