After visiting Kirtland, we drove to the Johnson Farm. Jospeh and Emma Smith lived at the Johnson farm and while there he received many revelations that are now in the Doctrine and Covenants.
Sister Johnson loved colors and was very up to date with housing fashion/decor of the time. She hand painted these doors.... this style is called tree of life.
This is also the home that Jospeh was living at when he was pulled out in the middle of the night and tarred and feathered. This is the room he was sleeping in at the time. (note Sister Johnson's love of color!)
When we finished at the Johnson farm, we drove to Erie Pennsylvania for the evening. Kate had just played a song about the Erie Canal in a piano recital a few days before we left on our vacation. She has been OBSESSED with the Erie Canal and Lake Erie since. This is her "shocked" face when realizing it is a real thing and real people can see it.
We had a nice little picnic dinner this evening!
If you ever travel, have Keith's sister Julie plan the trip. She had every detail figured out and I didn't have to think about a thing!
