We are starting a new school year! I love this time of year. The temperatures start to cool down, the kids have more productive things to do all day, and my beloved routine comes back. It seems like we all do better on a routine. This year I'll start with the youngest and work my way up. Kate is 2. She is going to be learning how to self entertain a little so that the other kids can concentrate on school work. Her favorite thing to do now days is read Curious George, or rather have someone read it to her. We haven't dared tell her she can't read yet.
She also likes to "do school work" at the table with the other kids. She can't really draw anything yet, but I figure pencil control is a good skill to develop.
Hayden is starting the 2nd grade! He said he is most excited to be part of a home school book club. He said his favorite thing to learn is math. He is starting a 3rd grade math book. This kid learns math concepts very quickly!
Sariah is starting the 5th grade. Sariah said her favorite part of school is personal reading time. Right now she is working on the Harry Potter series. She said she is also looking forward to science this year. She will be learning a lot about different scientists and what they discovered. Sariah is also going to be working on a rocketry class that she is pretty excited about.
Corrine is starting the 8th grade. She said she is most looking forward to science and math. These are actually her hardest subjects, but she is determined to learn and feel more confident in them. She is also part of the robotics team and Keith and Jakob worked with last year. She is nervous about that, but also excited to learn more about robotics. She is very excited about a digital art class that she has signed up for. This will be a good year for Corrine, I think!
Proof that an education can be gained anywhere.
Jakob is in the 11th grade. He is the one Im most nervous about! Jakob is taking ALL college classes this year. I look back on his schooling and I hope I have prepared him well enough to do college classes. My goal is to be a mentor and to teach him HOW to learn.... and let him figure out WHAT to learn. He has a pretty heavy load this year. He said he is most looking forward to the physics class. He will also be doing the robotics team again this year!
We must not forget the very important class of RECESS! This is great fun no matter where you attend school. Happy learning and welcome back school and routine!
