Another First....

One of the fun parts of being a parent is watching your kids have firsts. First steps.  First book read.  First surgery....  Ok, maybe that is not so fun. Corrine was the first of our kids to need any kind of surgery. She got a cyst on her wrist and it was cutting off the carpal tunnel nerve. A couple of weeks ago she had the cyst drained in hopes that it would not come back.  Sadly, it did. Today she had surgery to get it removed.  This in the pre-op room. She tried so hard to put on a brave face!

The anesthesiologist gave her just a little sleepy juice to calm her nerves before they even took her back.  She was so calm, she feel right asleep!  She said the happenings in the OR seemed like a dream.  They didn't put her all the way out, but she slept well. She remembers things from the OR but is convinced it was all a dream.  The nurse said Corrine looked just like an angel to her when they brought Corrine into her. Corrine was pretty cute when she was waking up.  She kept asking if it was done and if we were SURE it was done.  She was really worried the surgery hadn't happened and she would still have to do it. She asked several times if she was done.  She was also very proud of herself for surviving it! Here she is at home.... all set up with the lap top to watch shows with out distracting the other kids during school work.

On the way to the surgical center, I told Corrine that if she were very good and very brave I would get her what ever treat she felt like when she got done. Menchies is her MOST favorite treat. We only treat her to it 1-2 times a year. The nurses and doctors all said she was a perfect patient. I think they are very correct!  Corrine will need to be in this brace for a week and then wear another brace for 6 weeks. Im afraid its going to be a long 6 weeks!  She might have to have more Menchies during the next 6 weeks.
