End of Michigan Trip and Hair Cut

I took Sariah to get her hair cut this afternoon. We both LOVE it. She is walking around very fancy nancy now.

The return home trip from Michigan was a disaster. This is an e-mail I sent out letting everyone know how things were going. I just wanted to re-post it here so that I would have record of it. Memories... or something.

I just needed up update you all on the latest with us. We went to Michigan the 22nd of March and we supposed to be home yesterday. On the way out to Michigan we were traveling with Keiths sister (in a rental car) and his sisters friend who was in the process of moving to New York. In Wyoming, the friend got in a car accident but everyone was ok. Keith was able to limp this totaled car all the way from Wyoming to Michigan. It took us a long time to get to Michigan because of the bad weather and the totaled car. There are pictures of the car and the story about this on our family blog.

The plan was to leave Michigan on Monday the 4th. We started out just fine and with great hopes that the return trip would not be a long and eventful as the trip out. Our van started having problems with the transmission (which had been rebuilt less that a year ago) just outside of Chicago. We were in about Gary Indiana when we noticed the problem, but we were on a busy section of 1-80. We got it to about Joliet Illinios and we had to make a plan. Joliet IL is 1,372 miles from SLC. Keith had to dump transmission fluid in the van every 20 miles. So, from Joliet, IL to Williamsburg IA we stopped every 20 miles. The total distance between these two cities is 223 miles and if you are driving the speed limit, it should take you about 3 1/2 hours to make that drive. It took us a lot longer. About 2 miles outside of Williamsburg IA the van died and wasn't going to play the game any more. Keiths sister and mom went ahead and found a motel in Williamsburg. After a prayer and a lot of blessings, Keith was able to get the van to the hotel. It took us almost an hour to go that 2 miles.

Because Keiths sister had a rental car, she had to get it back to SLC by 6pm on Tuesday. The only way she was going to make that was if she drove through the night. Keiths mom isn't the best at driving in the dark. So, it was decided that I would leave with his sister and drive through the night to get her back. Keith and the kids would stay at the hotel in Williamsburg IA with his mom. Keiths dad and his brother, Robert were on their way with a trailer to go get them. Karen and I drove with her kids all night long and we made it to Utah about 6:30pm. Yes, we were 30 minutes late!!!! We would have made it on time, except there was so much construction we had to slow down for and the wind in Wyoming was so terrible we had to slow down to about 55. It was crazy.
