We had a lot of weeds in the back pasture that needed to be mowed down. Corrine really wanted to learn how to drive the riding mower. So, after a little instruction, she was given the go ahead. Here is Keith showing her.
Now she tries with a very close watchful eye.
Now, she gets a little more freedom.
And, she did it! She only ran over 2 chickens... oh, wait. She didn't. She did a great job!
Labor Day Weekend also means "firewood". Sariah wanted to learn how to run the log splitter. If you have never used one of these, you really need to come try. It is SO MUCH FUN! Sariah realized how much fun pretty quick. She really likes to run the log splitter. She did a pretty good job!
If you are going to run a log splitter, you need to look this good.
Before the wood can be split, it needs to be moved to where the splitter is. Hayden is the hardest working kid I have ever seen. I really hope he does not grow out of this. He would much rather be working than playing.
If you are going to move firewood, using a 4-wheeler is the ONLY way to do it.
A 4-wheeler is also a good way to move kids.
Just to prove I was busy all weekend.... and will be busy for a few more days... The peaches we got at the local farmers market. ALL of the vegies came from our garden. Its really impressive when you realize we TOTALLY neglected our garden this summer. Just imagine how cool it will be if we actually take care of the garden. I did some salsa today and a couple batches of peaches.
We decided to take advantage of a fire pit in our back yard and we roasted marshmallows. The kids LOVE this activity.
Hayden loves to get sticks ready for the fire.
While we waited for the fire to burn down to good coals, everyone hit the swings.
There is something soothing about ending a day watching the fire.
Im feeling very content this evening. Salsa done. Peaches getting done. Wood in. Kids getting tucked into bed. Its been a long weekend of hard work and getting projects done. There is a peace and comfort in working hard and seeing the fruits (or salsa) of your labors.

You took "Labor Day" very seriously! Good for you getting so much work done. Jakob was fantastic at book club today-- he will be a great addition.
